Celebrating One Year of Monochrome Mythology!

Monochrome Mythology 1st Anniversary

April marks the one year anniversary of Monochrome Mythology and I have a lot to be thankful for. New friends, allies, projects, and of course, drawings mark a time period that I am proud of. Does that mean I can just coast and lean back? Definitely not! Year two will be one that further defines the core offerings of Monochrome Mythology and an exciting one at that.

One of my favorite still life drawings from this last year – which I consider an honorary portrait – is the Lemon Blueberry Cake that was done earlier in November 2024 to celebrate my sister-in-law Mariana and her recipe collection. It’s now available as an 8×10 inch print on the Etsy store and is 30% off until 4/30/25! The rest of the collection is also on sale.

Lately, the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration has been a concern of mine but I am thankful that I am able to keep my item prices the same for the time being. This chaotic situation is a challenge to navigate since it changes frequently (at least during early April). My goal is to always bring fair prices into every print, comic book, or other product that Monochrome Mythology releases. Like any business, I am at the mercy of material costs. Utilizing primarily black and white media does have a tiny advantage in this situation!

Strength in Numbers

Broccoli Conflict

One of the best parts of last year has been the company I am keeping around me as I work: other artists! It has been invaluable to get their feedback and also to discuss all of the aspects that go into making art of all types. I have met some of the hardest working, creative folks here in the Middle Tennessee area and have left each meeting feeling inspired and energized to continue creating.

NASH Illustrators and 3rd Place Art have both been amazing groups. The former focuses on industry professionals working through various projects while the latter is more casual, providing weekly prompts to illustrate. The Broccoli Conflict drawing pictured above is the results of one of these prompts that I really enjoyed working on.

Wrapping Up

Running a small business is never an easy venture and these days it’s one that I work on in addition to my other marketing responsibilities elsewhere. However, seeing small progressions in all aspects of the studio practice has been very rewarding. Thanks for joining me on this journey and cheers to the next year ahead!

Keep telling stories,

Jeremy
