Springing Into The Big Stuff

Sleeping Puppy (Bailey)

The spring season is off to a decent start here at the Monochrome Mythology studio with a major focus on two key projects I’ll detail below. This translates to a new one-off portrait to enjoy as well as the first comic book release – both set for a bit later this year. There is no sleeping on the job, unlike little Bailey pictured above who might argue for a nap here and there.

Comic Book Production

With Burden, I want to bring as much value into the final product as I can. The story and artwork have all received their final edits and lately I’ve been preparing all of the bonus content that will be included such as a Q&A with my brother, how it was made section, as well as an artist gallery. In a lot of ways, Burden is serving as a small time capsule of my brother’s military history and my response to it in an artsy sort of way.

My goal is to bring it to you and readers everywhere via Amazon first and then make it available for expanded distribution after. Both a soft-cover print and an eBook Kindle version will be first to market. The launch date is TBD and I’ll definitely be announcing it once we’re ready to go. My brother and I are pretty excited to bring this to light!

Portrait Production

Since I am spending a good amount of time with Burden at my computer, I also feel the need to stay rooted in the tangible world of art materials as well – pencil, paper, erasers, and graphite. That itch to create never leaves!

A friend of mine allowed me to utilize one of her photos of her in a garden-like setting as the basis for a new portrait. While comics will continue to be the main focus for Monochrome Mythology in the future, I expect to still draw a new portrait (or something like it) occasionally. This one is easily among the top detail-oriented pieces I’ve attempted and assuming all goes well, I’ll be able to share it as a print in the Etsy store. At least 100 hours or more will be required here!

New Print

Speaking of Etsy, I included a new print to the shop last month: Westbound.

Westbound – 10 x 8″ graphite on paper

This is one of those drawings where I can picture where I was when I made it back in 2019 as I had needed to move briefly back to California for job-related reasons. Life is definitely full of movement and it was nice to honor that move with this covered wagon illustration.

I have a special 30% sale going on at the shop until March 31st. If you find a print you like, be sure to use promo code SPRING30 or use this link to shop with the code applied.

Wrapping Up

Thanks so much for reading and going on this artistic journey with me. There is so much I have planned and I can’t wait to share it with you here on the blog and on social media.

Keep telling stories!

Jeremy
